Blake Stitch

Blake construction stitches the outsole directly to the insole and upper through the inside of the shoe, with no welt. The result is lighter, sleeker, and more flexible than Goodyear welt — favored for dressier Italian shoes — and it is still resoleable, but it requires a specialized Blake stitching machine that not every cobbler owns. Trade-offs: the internal stitch can let a little more water in and offers slightly less structure than a welt. It is a legitimate quality construction, not a shortcut; the practical caveat is confirming a local repair option before betting on long-term resoles.
