Waxed Canvas
Waxed canvas is cotton canvas treated with a wax finish that makes it water-resistant, wind-blocking, and extremely rugged, with a characteristic weathered look that deepens over time. Unlike coated synthetics, it is repairable and can be re-waxed at home to restore water resistance, which supports a genuine long-life case. Trade-offs: it is heavier and stiffer than modern shells, not fully waterproof, and needs occasional maintenance. It also marks and creases (a feature to fans). On a spec sheet, waxed canvas signals a durable, maintainable jacket rather than a lightweight technical one — a different purpose, priced accordingly.
