Combing is an extra step that removes short, weak fibers and debris before spinning, leaving only the longer fibers aligned. The payoff is a smoother, stronger yarn that resists pilling and feels finer against the skin. "Combed ring-spun cotton" on a spec sheet is a genuine quality signal, not just adjectives — both steps cost the maker money. It is standard on better tees and shirting and absent on the cheapest blanks. As with all fiber claims, it describes the yarn, not the finished garment; construction and weight still decide how the piece wears.
