Twill Weave (Shirting)

Twill is woven with a diagonal rib (the same family as denim and chino cloth). In shirting it produces a soft, smooth fabric with good drape that resists wrinkles better than poplin and takes a sharp color well. The trade-off is less of the crisp formality poplin gives and a slightly heavier hand. Twill shirts are a comfortable middle ground — dressy enough for most offices, forgiving enough for travel. "Twill" on a shirt spec signals drape and wrinkle resistance over crispness, which is a fit-for-purpose call, not a quality ranking.
